The first Super Match of the Premier League between two big sides takes place on Day 1, when Wegner’s Arsenal will take on Jurgen Klopp’s side at home. Both teams haven’t really been playing on the top of their game in recent years and haven’t lifted the Premier League in quite some time, although they were both close a couple of times. Let’s see how booth teams will start their 2016/2017 campaign.
English Premier League Betting Previews, Odds And Tips – Arsenal vs Liverpool
Liverpool have been one of the most impressive sides in pre-season games, even managing a 4-0 win over Barcelona, among other top results. Origi seems to be maturing in a striker who can start each game and score, Mane seems like a great transfer already, Klavan and Matip are great team players, and even Wijnaldum seems to blend in well.
Couple this with last season’s good squad, which just needed some additions here and there, and a world-class coach, and Liverpool have something to be enthusiastic about. They will aim for a top-4 finish at least, even being able to challenge for the title given a good string of results.
On the other hand, this season seems like an all-in on for Arsene Wegner. He failed to win any significant trophies with Arsenal in recent years, except one FA cup. Even though they finished second last year, the team wasn’t particularly impressive and looks shaky when one key player (Sanchez, Ozil or Ramsey) doesn’t play.
They only made one serious transfer, bringing in Granit Xhaka, and fans aren’t very confident that Wegner will manage to steer them to winning some silverware. If he fails, it’s probably his last season with the Gunners after an impressive spell.
The history of Arsenal – Liverpool confrontations is very rich in recent times. Last year, neither team managed to win – 3-3 in Liverpool and 0-0 in London. Apart from this 0-0 result, we have to go all the way to 2012 to see another “under 2,5 goal” game – which gives us a clear idea of what the two teams are about.
Both like attacking play and only the fact that it’s the first day of the season might hinder this. It is also worth mentioning that Arsenal have only lost once against Liverpool at home in the last 10 years, with Suarez netting on that occasion.
From a betting perspective, it’s hard to pick an outright winner, but we think Liverpool will not lose this game and will contradict history. If you’re looking for a safer bet, we’re very sure Liverpool will score in this game – their attacking power should be too much for the slow Arsenal central defenders.
Our last idea is a goal interval: between 1 and 3 goals should be the sweet spot. It’s day 1 of the season after all, and many teams need to work on their cohesion and chemistry. Our favorite players to score are Giroud and Mane, but we doubt that any of the teams will score more than once, maximum twice.
Over 2.5 & Both Teams To Score: 2.05 or 21/20
