With the group stage of the Olympic Games football tournament behind us, the teams are now ready to face each other for medals. With a quarter-final win, any team can book a place in the semi-finals, which takes them either in the final or in the 3rd place playoff, both games ending in medals for the young teams.
Although some of them have made it this far without convincing games, we’ve seen Portugal’s experience in Euro 2016 and know you don’t need to beat everyone to win a title.
Rio 2016 Olympic Games – Football Betting Previews, Odds And Tips
The first quarter-final takes place between two South American teams, Brazil and Columbia. After two 0-0 draws, the Brazilians finally started playing the type of football they are expected to play, trashing Denmark 4-0 in the last game of the group and booking their place in the knockout rounds.
If they continue to play in the same way, it will be hard for any team to stop them – especially due to the support Brazil has, playing in front of their own fans. They are now viewed as favorites for taking a medal, even considering Gold.
Columbia had roughly the same path during the group stages. Two 2-2 draws (Japan vs Colombia and Sweden vs Colombia) and a 2-0 win over Nigeria in the last game, when the Africans were already qualified.
Thus, the Columbians won second place in the group and will now be looking to defeat the host nation for their place in the semi-finals. This will not be an easy task, especially due to the defensive fragility they have shown so far.
From a betting perspective, we think we will be looking at a spectacular game. With the Brazilian offensive power paired with defensive weakness on the Columbian side, we think this game will feature over 2,5 goals, and with Brazil the most likely winner.
Combining these two bets can get you a big win, but each individual bet has good odds as well. If you’re looking for something different, we also think Columbia will receive more yellow cards. Good luck!
Total Goals – Over 2.5: 1.72 or 8/11
Brazil Win & Over 2.5: 2.25 or 5/4
