Derby vs Wigan – England Championship Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips
Round 24 of the Sky Bet Championship has quite a few unbalanced games installed for us. Along with Brighton – Cardiff, Derby – Wigan is one of the most one-sided games we find so far, at least on paper. A win could see Derby finish the year on a playoff spot, while Wigan cannot jump out of the relegation zone regardless of the final result.
Derby County vs Wigan Athletic – 31/12/2016
FT Result: Derby 1.57 or 4/7 Draw 4.00 or 3/1 Wigan 7.00 or 6/1
Total Goals Over/Under 2.5: Over 2.15 or 23/20 Under 1.66 or 4/6
Both Teams To Score: Yes 2.10 or 11/10 No 1.66 or 4/6
If we only look at the last 10 games, Derby is the second best team in the league, winning only 1 point fewer that Brighton. Undefeated for 9 games and with 5 straight league wins at home, it’s fair to say that Derby is flying high right now. 24 goals scored is by no means a great attacking record, but they’ve only just conceded 15 – none of which came at Pride Park in their last 7 games. If that record doesn’t tell you that their home ground is a real fortress, nothing will.
To make matter worse for the away team, they’ll be looking to win points in this fortress after failing to do so in their last 5 games. Wigan is coming after 5 straight league defeats which have left the team in 23rd place, 4 points under the last place which ensures survival. The Wigan players and supporters know they must turn the team’s fortunes around quite quickly if they want to avoid dropping to League One, but can they really start their survival campaign against Derby?
Derby vs Wigan Betting Tips
We think this won’t be the case, and we expect to see an easy home win here. Derby will want to finish the year on a playoff spot and will beat Wigan with a 1-0 or 2-0 scoreline. If you want a high-odd bet, go for Wigan not scoring in the game – since they probably won’t be the team to beat Derby’s awesome home record. Alternatively, look for betting on a goalscorer – we recommend Tom Ince here.
Asian Handicap Full Time – Derby -1 @ 2.00 or 1/1
Derby To Win To Nil @ 2.25 or 5/4
