Before their Day 2 game against Iceland, the Finnish were seen as almost sure victims. The recent performances of this Icelandic squad were thought to be too much for the Nordic side, so nobody expected them to battle so hard for victory. Croatia, on the other hand, behaved exactly as expected so far – so who will come on top in the game between the two teams?
Finland vs Croatia – 9th October
After a 1-1 draw against debutants Kosovo on day 1, Finland led 2-1 at half time in Iceland and was poised to produce one of the surprises of the qualifications.
They even managed to defend a penalty kick, only to concede twice, in minutes 89 and 90+7 – meaning they returned home to face Croatia with no points.
Although they have shown some decent quality up front, the amount of chances a team like Iceland managed to create against them is worrying.
Especially since Croatia has a lot more quality, both in midfield and up front. This quality was clearly shown in the first two games so far, an unlucky 1-1 draw against Turkey and a 6-0 demolition of Kosovo.
If they want to win 1st place in the group, Croatians need maximum points from the duels against the weaker teams in the group – which are Finland and Kosovo.
Since they were already leading 3-0 by halftime in Kosovo, the team didn’t press as much and is rather well-rested for the long, cold trip to Finland.
Finland vs Croatia Betting Tips
Which is exactly why we think they will manage to leave with all the points. Croatia will surely not lose (X2) simply because they are the better team by far.
We expect them to win, have better possession, concede fewer yellow cards, all in a game which should feature over 2,5 goals.
And, of course, since the Finnish will defend for most of the game, the Croatians will use plenty of crosses in the box – meaning the most likely goalscorer will be Mandzukic.
