After some good weeks and weekends with games both in domestic leagues and the European cups, it’s time to focus our attention once again on national teams and their bids to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
Not a lot can be said after just one game played by each team in each group, but the next stage of games (which stars on the 6th of October) is sure to be at least interesting.
Hungary vs Switzerland – 7th October
Betting Odds: Hungary 3.50 or 5/2 Draw 3.20 or 11/5 Switzerland 2.35 or 27/20
One of the most balanced games of the first two days is Switzerland’s visit to Hungary. Judging from their Euro 2016 performance, both teams should be able to challenge for the 3 points, but their recent form states otherwise.
From Hungary’s perspective, they have to up their game very quickly. After a 0-0 draw against minnows Faroe, the Hungarian team needs to win points against their direct competitors for 1st and 2nd place – meaning Switzerland and Portugal.
This game is absolutely crucial for them – a loss in Budapest could mean they are already out of qualification calculations.
On the other hand, Switzerland produced one of the most surprising results of Day 1, beating European Champions Portugal in a very convincing manner, with a score of 2-0.
A draw in Budapest wouldn’t kill them, but the Swiss will target victory – after all, they currently have their best generation in decades and given their great result against the Portuguese can clearly target 1st place in the group.
They will be able to relax a little for their next fixtures, which are all against smaller opponents – Latvia, Andorra or Feroe.
Hungary vs Switzerland Betting Tips
We back the Swiss to do well in this game, no doubt about that. The odds are extremely skewed, so prepare to profit: X or 2 is around 1,35 in most betting agencies, Switzerland to score is also around 1,30, and an all-out away victory more than doubles your money.
If you’re looking for a very high-odd bet, try Switzerland and under 2,5 goals scored – we think the most probable results are 0-1 and 0-2. It’s highly unlikely that Hungary will score.
Switzerland To Win: 2.35 or 27/20

The South American qualifiers for the World Cup are slowly but surely starting to showcase their winners and their losers. As every four years, South America is one of the most dynamic regions, with lots of surprises and almost never the same nations finishing on first spots. Portugal seems to treat these World Cup qualifiers just as they’ve treated the European Championship – growing their squad game after game. This time around, their opponent is Latvia, a team with no objective and nothing impressive so far. Can the Portuguese have any doubts of winning this game?
