This preview would have been a lot harder to write if the game between Iceland and Finland ended in the 89th minute and the one between Turkey and Ukraine just before halftime.
Both teams managed the most impressive comebacks of Day 1, are both hungry for points, and now face each other in Iceland – who will come on top?
Iceland vs Turkey – 9th October
After a credible away draw in Ukraine, Iceland did almost everything well at home against Finland – creating lots of chances and coming back from 1-2 at halftime to win 3-2 in the last minute of the game. The football they’ve played was physical, offensive and pleasing, although naïve in certain aspects.
A team with more international experience (like Turkey) should be able to profit more from these less-than-ideal moments the Icelanders had and return home with a point or points. Also, running almost 90 minutes after victory at home surely depleted some of their resources.
Thankfully for them, the same thing can be said about Turkey. After trailing 0-2, they’ve worked their way very well towards a 2-2 draw at home against Ukraine, after another 1-1 draw on Day 1 against Croatia.
They are also tired after this game and now sit ahead of a long, long flight to Iceland. Thankfully for them, the value of the squad is far greater than that of Iceland, so they do have options to replace their tired players.
Iceland vs Turkey Betting Tips
From a betting perspective, we think Turkey will press towards their first victory of the group. After 2 draws, they need 3 points in order to sit close to the first places and not fall behind already in standings.
X2 has great odds at most betting agencies, and is clearly the safer bet, while an over 1,5 goal bet is almost a sure-fire one.
We even recommend going over 2,5 goals – both teams were involved in games where 3 goals were scored before halftime.
Turkey or Draw: 1.53 or 8/15
Total Goals – Over 2.5: 2.00 or 1/1
