Group I of the World Cup qualifiers, also known as the “1-1” Group after Day 1 results, features some interesting games over the next period.
The highlight and group derby in Day 2 is the game between Turkey and Ukraine, two very inconsistent teams, but with lots of quality in their squads and a strong desire to compete for first place.
Turkey vs Ukraine – 6th October
Betting Odds: Turkey 2.30 or 13/10 Draw 3.25 or 9/4 Ukraine 3.50 or 5/2
Both teams drew 1-1 in the first round, but Turkey’s result is a bit more impressive – away from home against Croatia, a very difficult ground to return with points from.
The Turkish are trying to remember their glory days when they were a force of the continent, and have shown their intentions quite clear : they want to win the group.
In this sense, their home game against Ukraine is one which they must win, and have the capacity to do so, led by some in-form players like Calhanoglu.
On the other side, Ukraine only managed a 1-1 draw at home against Iceland. The East-European country features some exceptional individual players, like Yarmolenko, Konoplyanka, Stepanenko or Rakitsky, who more often than not fail to look like a team.
They clearly have the quality and the means to compete for the first two places in the group, but will have to step up their game in order to do so.
Turkey vs Ukraine Betting Tips
From a betting perspective, we see quite a few ideas for this game. We believe we will see goals, at least two, so an over 1,5 bet is a good idea. We believe we will see at least 4 yellow cards because both teams tend to play a strong, physical game.
Last but not least, we expect possession to be on the Ukrainian side, even though Turkey plays at home. Their team and play style are built around having the ball, rather than going for quick, direct attacks.
