Every year, the Europa League brings another previously unheard of team in the spotlights – it’s part of the competition’s charm.
This year, debutants Dundalk went all the way to the group stage, vastly overachieving their initial objective to not embarrass themselves.
They kept impressing here, gathering a win against Maccabi, and now sit 2nd ahead of their away game in Russia against Zenit.

Betting Odds: Zenit 1.16 or 1/6 Draw 9.00 or 8/1 Dundalk 19.00 or 18/1
Their opponents, Zenit St. Petersburg, dominate the group at the moment. 9 points out of 9, 11-4 goal difference, and great form. If we overlook their 0-4 defeat in the Russian cup against Anzhi, Lucescu’s team were undefeated for quite some time.
They don’t have the easiest of times against lots of clubs – even their 2-1 win against Dundalk in Ireland was a comeback – but essentially they always produce what’s required of them. Their last home defeat was against Benfica in spring, even before Lucescu was installed as head coach.
On the other hand, Dundalk will play with confidence brought by a lack of pressure. They’ve already far exceeded their objectives, and even if they want to push 2nd place, they probably won’t do so gathering points from Russia – we all know how hard these games are.
They are a team known to play strong, disciplined football, so they probably won’t concede a whole lot of goals, but we still can’t see how they can produce yet another upset in their next game.
Zenit vs Dundalk Betting Tips
Zenit’s odds to win are very, very small – almost not worth the investment, and a handicap win isn’t a good idea on a team which doesn’t really need to win. We’d actually advise going for a bet on over/under goals and a handicap bet on Dundalk.
